ABOUT ME

Please call me David.

I was a teacher and school administrator for 20 years. I taught every level from kindergarten through college. I began teaching in Aspen, Colorado, followed by working for International Schools Services teaching expatriate children in The Canary Islands and Indonesia. I taught graduate-level teachers extended education courses for several years through the University of San Diego. In 1985, I was awarded Orange County Teacher of the Year for my work teaching in the Los Alamitos Public School District.

Post my teaching career, I have been a California Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT) for the past 30 years. I mainly work with adults, although my specialty is children and adolescents.

I work with individuals, couples, and families.

I was initially trained in Gestalt Therapy and a form of somatic psychotherapy called IBP (Integrative Body Psychotherapy). IBP is simply described as working with how one experiences problems like anxiety and depression physically in the body.

I combine this somatic work with CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). I am a certified IBP practitioner and have taught certified IBP classes to therapists for many years. I am also certified by the National Tourette Syndrome Association to do CBIT (Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics). I was trained 30 years ago to do EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) by Francine Shapiro, the founder of EMDR. I have treated over 200 cases of PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) using EMDR and have studied with many practitioners using and deepening this modality.

I have varied experiences working with children and adolescents experiencing school-related problems of all kinds, such as test-taking anxiety, bullying, homework difficulties, behavior problems, as well as social anxiety and parent-child or sibling relational issues. Therapy is serious business, but it has to have moments of fun, magic, and storytelling.

I have had training and experience in almost everything one encounters in 30 years of doing this work. My specialties are Anxiety, Panic and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and notably Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

I can meet in person or virtually. Although I do not take insurance, I can provide a Superbill if your insurance reimburses for out-of-network providers.

Please call me with any questions you might have regarding treatment or scheduling. (949) 525-1553.
